Cheap Spotify Premium in 2026: legal deals first, the VPN second
Spotify Premium costs €12.14/month in France for the Individual plan today (Duo €17.20, Family €21.24, Student €7.07), after the summer 2025 price rise, and $12.99 in the US. The VPN method still exists: the same Premium Standard plan shows ₹139/month in India, about €1.30. But the gap has become riskier to exploit than a year ago, and several legal routes cut the bill much lower than most people think.
So this article ranks the options in order: first the legal, no-risk ways to pay less, then the step-by-step VPN method, its current risks, the alternatives (Turkey, Philippines, Nigeria, Argentina) and how to secure it all.

The legal, no-risk ways to pay less for Spotify Premium
Before touching a VPN, here is what Spotify officially allows. The prices below come from the Spotify France pages checked on 18 Oct 2026 (US prices are in the country table further down).

Duo and Family: the biggest discount, if you respect the rule
Duo works out at €8.60 per person and Family at about €3.54 per person with six members. The rule is written on Spotify’s pages: members must live at the same address. It suits a couple, close housemates or a family. Co-subscription services that group strangers to fill a Family plan (for example Spliiit, which explains that it lets users enter a common address when sharing) stay at a distance from that official rule: a suspension risk exists there too, even if the practice is far more common than the VPN trick.
Student: half price, no tinkering
The Student plan is €7.07/month, with 1 month free for anyone who has never tried Premium. You must be enrolled at an eligible higher-education institution, verified by SheerID, for 4 years at most. Once your studies end, access is kept for 12 months from your subscription or last verification date, then the account switches automatically to Premium Individual at €12.14. In the US the Student plan is $6.99 and includes Hulu.
Trials and promos: up to 4 free months, once
- Spotify trial: Premium Individual at €0 for 2 months, then €12.14/month, for anyone who has never tried Premium (stated valid until 30 Oct 2026; as always, these promos change).
- Microsoft Rewards: up to 4 months of Premium Individual through the Spotify quest, for new subscribers only (offer stated to end on 8 Nov 2026, one per person). The detailed terms are on the quest page once signed in.
- Win-back offer: Spotify sometimes offers 2 months to former subscribers whose Premium ended more than 30 days ago.
None of these stack forever: it is a boost, not a lasting price.
Gift cards: they pay the bill, they do not lower it
A Spotify gift card must be activated within 12 months of purchase, on an account from the country of purchase, and only covers Premium Individual at the standard price: not Student, Duo, Family or trial offers. It gives no discount by itself. Be wary of keys sold under €1 on marketplaces: if they come from another country, they will not activate on a French account. In the US, Spotify also lists a Basic plan, but only for existing Premium subscribers.
Carriers and internet boxes: check case by case
Some plans have included months of Spotify Premium (December 2025 articles mention 4 months free at Bouygues Telecom in France), but carriers have moved a lot: a June 2026 comparison highlights Deezer at €1/month for 3 or 4 months at Orange, Sosh and SFR rather than Spotify. We could not confirm any currently active Spotify carrier offer: check the perks page of your plan before paying full price.

What the table shows: India is still very low, Nigeria even lower, but Turkey is no longer at ~€1 (the ~€1 promo is gone, the normal price is ~€2). Another change: the Indian Family plan at ₹199 for 6 accounts no longer appears on the official page, replaced by Platinum at ₹299 for 3 accounts at the same address.
The India method: step by step
What you need
- A premium VPN with an India location (Mumbai or New Delhi). Check in the app: after India’s 2022 CERT-In rules, many VPNs removed their physical servers from India and offer virtual locations (Indian IP, server located outside India).
- A new email dedicated to this (not your main one: create, for example, a Proton Mail address).
- An Indian payment method:
- Option A: a Spotify India gift card bought from a reseller. It only activates on an Indian account, only covers Premium Individual at the standard price, and resale prices vary: compare them with ₹139 (~€1.30) before buying.
- Option B: the one-time prepaid payment of ₹799 for one year (≈ €7.50, about €0.62/month, no automatic renewal) offered on the Spotify India page, if it accepts your payment method.
- Option C: an Indian card or UPI if you know someone locally.
- An Indian address consistent with the account country (Spotify uses it to calculate taxes).
Step 1: set up the VPN
Install your VPN and connect to Mumbai or New Delhi. Verify your IP on whatismyip.com: it should show India. Clear all Spotify cookies in your browser before creating the account.

The risks in 2026: what Spotify says, what users report
What Spotify writes in black and white
Spotify’s terms of use require the account to be registered in your country of residence (section 3) and your registration details to be accurate (section 1), and let Spotify suspend access if it believes the terms were breached (section 6). Spotify does not name VPNs explicitly, but an account declared in India while you live in France does not respect those clauses.
What guides and users report
Specialist guides say Spotify has tightened since autumn 2025 its detection of location inconsistencies and foreign payments, and may block an account on suspicious activity. The symptoms cited: reversion to real-country pricing, request for a local bank card, temporary restrictions, even suspension. Spotify has not published an official procedure, so these symptoms rest on user reports, not on a written rule.
How to minimize the risk
- Put nothing irreplaceable on it: treat the account as disposable.
- Keep your data consistent: same country, same address, same payment method.
- Never use a free VPN: their IPs are often blacklisted.
- Never pay with a French card for an account declared in India.
- Do not share a multi-account plan with people who do not live at the declared address.

Price: ₺115/month (€2.07), ₺59 for 6 months for a first subscription (offer stated until 6 Nov 2026). Pro: Student plan at ₺60 (€1.08). Con: the former ~€1 promo is gone and Spotify watches foreign payments more closely.
Spotify Premium Philippines
Price: PHP 169/month (€2.39). Pro: Family plan at PHP 279 (€3.94) for 6 accounts. Con: less economical than India.
Argentina
Price: ARS 4,499/month before taxes (~€2.64), with taxes added on top. Argentina was the classic cheap country in past years. The displayed price excludes taxes, and paying with an Argentine card or local method remains the blocker for a foreigner: do not count on it.
Spotify Premium Family: the sharing case
The official French Family plan costs €21.24/month for 6 accounts (€3.54 per person), but requires the same address for all members. In the compared countries, Family is ₦2,500 in Nigeria (€1.67), ₺199 in Turkey (€3.57) and PHP 279 in the Philippines (~€3.94). In India, the official page no longer lists a Family plan but Platinum at ₹299/month (~€2.80) for 3 accounts at the same address, with lossless, playlist mixing and an AI DJ.
Our advice: if you share with five people who do not live with you, do not count on a plan declared in India: you stack two deviations from the rules (country and address), and one check would hit every account at once.
