A VPN is supposed to hide your real IP address and prevent your ISP, the sites you visit or attackers on public Wi-Fi from tracking your activity. But three types of leaks can compromise that protection without your knowledge:
- DNS leak — your domain-name lookups (what sites you visit) escape the VPN tunnel and go to your ISP's DNS servers.
- WebRTC leak — your browser reveals your real IP through the WebRTC protocol, bypassing the VPN.
- IPv6 leak — your VPN only supports IPv4, but your connection uses IPv6 — which then exits in the clear.
Our four tools let you verify in a few seconds that your VPN is correctly configured and that none of these leaks compromise your privacy.
