Wiflix in 2026: current situation
Wiflix, one of the most searched-for French-language illegal streaming sites, shares the same fate as French Stream and Papystreaming: repeated ARCOM blocking orders, a rebrand under the name Flemmix, short-lived mirror domains, and an environment saturated with malware and subscription scams, including through fake mobile apps.
What you need to know:
- Wiflix is illegal: it streams copyrighted films, series and anime without rights holder authorisation
- The site is blocked by major French ISPs following an order dated April 4, 2024, confirmed and extended in June 2025
- It changed its name: Wiflix rebranded as Flemmix in 2025, same operators and same catalogue according to several sources
- The mobile app is an extra trap: “Wiflix APK” files installed outside official stores are a near-guaranteed malware vector
- Legal alternatives exist for nearly all of its catalogue (films, series, anime, documentaries)
This guide covers Wiflix’s situation in 2026, the real risks (legal, malware, fraudulent apps), and above all how to watch the same content for free and legally.
Wiflix is illegal, blocked by ARCOM, and rebranded as Flemmix in 2025; its mobile apps and third-party APK files add a malware risk on top of the already high risk of the website itself.
- A VPN doesn't make it legal. Watching pirated content still exposes you to Hadopi/ARCOM fines.
- Its entire catalogue (films, series, subtitled anime, documentaries) is legally available, often free: Pluto TV, Tubi, BBC iPlayer, France.tv, ARTE.
- Never install an app or APK file claiming to be "Wiflix". If you go to the website anyway, activate at least NordVPN Threat Protection (or Surfshark CleanWeb) plus uBlock Origin.
What is Wiflix: history and catalogue
Wiflix emerged in the mid-2010s, in response to growing demand for free access to films and series without a subscription. Unlike Papystreaming (older films niche) or French Stream (recent releases), Wiflix always aimed at a general-purpose catalogue: recent and older films, series, anime and documentaries, dubbed and subtitled, with no registration or payment.
The typical catalogue
- Films of every genre, from recent blockbusters to classics
- Complete series, with ongoing seasons regularly updated
- Japanese anime with subtitles: a feature that sets Wiflix apart from Papystreaming or French Stream
- Documentaries
The business model: intrusive advertising, pop-ups, redirects to illegal gambling sites, and sometimes hidden subscription attempts via fake apps.
What happened to Wiflix? The ARCOM blocking orders
A court ruling dated April 4, 2024 ordered the four main French ISPs (Orange, Free, SFR, Bouygues) to apply DNS blocking on domains associated with Wiflix. In June 2025, the Paris judicial court issued a new order targeting 14 pirate sites, with Wiflix explicitly named, for a duration of 18 months (until the end of 2026), based on article L.336-2 of the French Intellectual Property Code.
Cumulative result: according to several sources, Wiflix and Empire Streaming together saw more than 120 domain names blocked over two years (the .site, .surf and .audio extensions are now out of service in France). Since the law of October 25, 2021, ARCOM can extend a blocking order to mirror domains without going back before a judge: each new address survives on average a few weeks to three months before being blocked in turn.
To escape this mechanism, the site rebranded as Flemmix in 2025: same operators and same catalogue according to several specialised sources, but a different name to start over against the ARCOM orders. Domains keep rotating (.irish, .art, .cam, .voto, .vip, .studio, .rent…). No Wiflix or Flemmix address is stable in 2026.
Why Wiflix is dangerous today
The malware risks
Like other illegal streaming sites, current Wiflix mirrors are infested with:
- Constant pop-ups redirecting to illegal gambling sites
- Fake players asking you to install an “extension” (malware)
- JavaScript cryptominers that massively slow down your browsing
- Banking phishing via fake Stripe/PayPal pages
- Fake Windows/Mac warnings asking you to call a “support line”
These illegal streaming sites regularly contain active malware. An unprotected user can end up with ransomware encrypting all their personal files after just a few unfortunate clicks.
The legal risks
The same law that applies to French Stream and Papystreaming:
- Fine up to €300,000 (French Intellectual Property Code)
- Up to 3 years in prison in serious cases
- €1,500 Hadopi/ARCOM fine in simplified procedure
- €7,500 for using a blocked site
Film and audiovisual rights holders (SACEM, ALPA, APP, SFA) have stepped up prosecutions since 2023, including for animation and series content streamed without a licence.
How do you install Wiflix? The APK trap
There is no legitimate installation of Wiflix: the site has never had an official app validated by Apple or Google. What circulates under names like “Wiflix APK”, “Wiflix apk iOS” or “Wiflix APK PC” are files hosted on third-party APK platforms (outside the Google Play Store), to be installed manually by disabling your phone’s protections.
This sideloading practice disables Play Protect (Android) or bypasses Apple’s app review, making malware installation nearly guaranteed: banking trojans, spyware, or apps that harvest your contact list and stored credentials. No “Wiflix APK” file should ever be installed, on any device.
What is the Wi-flix app?
An app named “Wi-flix” does exist on the Google Play Store, published by Bac-Tech Solutions Limited: rated 2.8/5 from 602 reviews, with more than 100,000 downloads. There is no proof it’s linked to the operators of the illegal Wiflix streaming site, but its existence illustrates a real risk: apps capitalising on this name’s notoriety circulate on app stores, with user reviews reporting frequent malfunctions (playback failures, missing catalogue) and difficulty cancelling subscriptions.

Current mirror sites are booby-trapped
Between the moment a Wiflix or Flemmix mirror appears and its ARCOM block (a few weeks on average), operators rush to monetise as much as possible. The result: recent mirrors are almost entirely traps for ads, phishing and fake apps, with playback sometimes outright broken.
What is the alternative to Wiflix?
Here’s the good news: everything Wiflix offered can be found legally elsewhere, often for free.
Recent films and series
- Netflix with ads (from €7.99/mo)
- Prime Video (included with Amazon Prime)
- Disney+ (Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, classic Disney catalogue)
- Max (formerly HBO Max)
- Canal+ for recent cinema and sport
Free channels and replays
BBC iPlayer: UK live and replay for all channels, free with a UK IP and account.
France.tv: French series and documentaries, replay and live, free.
Free ad-supported films
Pluto TV: thematic channels and on-demand catalogue, free.
Tubi (USA, via a US VPN like NordVPN): huge free catalogue, legal in the US, accessible via VPN.
Crackle, Plex, The Roku Channel: further free AVOD catalogues.
Legal anime
Crunchyroll: the reference for subtitled and dubbed anime, simulcasting new seasons.
These platforms cover nearly all of the anime catalogue Wiflix offered, with far better image quality and official subtitles.
Art-house cinema and documentaries
ARTE: free, art-house cinema and quality documentaries.
The Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/feature_films): thousands of public-domain films, free.
Pay-per-view
Rakuten TV, Prime Video, Apple TV offer rentals of recent films (a few euros/dollars per film). For one specific film now and then, it’s far cheaper than the legal and malware risk of a site like Wiflix.
If you go to Wiflix anyway
This isn’t our recommendation. But if you go to the website anyway:
1. A VPN with active Threat Protection
NordVPN and its Threat Protection feature automatically block:
- Known malware domains
- Malicious advertising pop-ups
- Cryptomining scripts
- Phishing redirects
With Surfshark, the CleanWeb feature does the same job. It’s an essential layer of protection if you visit dubious sites.
2. An aggressive ad blocker
uBlock Origin with filters enabled (EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy’s Annoyance List) blocks 80-90% of malicious pop-ups.
3. A dedicated browser
Never use the same browser as your banking, Google or social media accounts. Use a separate browser, in private mode, disconnected from everything.
4. No installs: no “codec”, no app, no APK
Pirate streaming sites regularly ask you to install a “codec” or “video player” to play files. This is always malware. Likewise, never install a “Wiflix APK” file or an app claiming that name, whatever store it comes from. Modern browsers play all standard video formats natively; no extension is ever needed.
Our final recommendation
Free and legal streaming has grown enormously in 2026. French channels (France.tv) and art-house cinema (ARTE, Internet Archive) are accessible without risk, and anime is available on paid services such as Crunchyroll. Netflix with ads at €7.99/mo covers most of a household’s remaining needs.
A VPN is still useful for:
- Travelling while keeping access to your home subscriptions
- Accessing Tubi, Crackle, Roku Channel from abroad (legal with a paid VPN account)
- Protecting your security on dubious sites (NordVPN Threat Protection)
